People Helping People!
In December of 2004 myself and thirty other Chiropractic Students traveled to the island of Bali, in Indonesia, for three weeks of a Chiropractic Mission Trip. Organized by an American Chiropractor who now lived in Bali, we spent three weeks traveling to various small towns and villages to provide Chiropractic and general first aid to the local people at no charge. For many of the people it was one of the few, if any, encounters they would have with a doctor or other health care provider in their lifetime. The people of Bali are Hindu, and hence, extremely friendly and peaceful. Many of the towns we stayed in, we stayed in Home-Stays. Yes, it is exactly what it sounds like, we stayed in the homes of local people, with their children, pets and even other guests. Home-Stays are quite popular in Bali, and travelers often rent rooms from families while on their trips. It was sort of like a bead and breakfast, they cooked breakfast and dinner for us, and we ate with them and their families.
The pictures below are only a few from my trip. The ones with the little girls, the couple, and the group picture is from a traditional Balinese wedding. In the middle, the ones with me treating an American traveler and a local are from a Mid-Wife Clinic in the city of Ubud. The Mid-Wife center was started and ran by an American women who was literally a 'Doctor Quinn Medicine Women'. There are very few Hospitals or Medical clinics, and almost all women gave birth from home. So, this Medicine women started a Mid-Wife center for the people of Ubud.
