Spinal Decompression
What is spinal decompression therapy?
Spinal Decompression Therapy is a proven safe and effective means to treat severe and chronic cervical (neck) and lumbar (low back) conditions. The program consists of non-surgical Spinal Decompression equipment focusing on discal and arthritic conditions affecting the spine. For decades traction has been used by doctors and therapists for treating back problems. However, only recently has it caught up with modern technology and evolved into computerized spinal decompression. The gentle oscillating pull patterns are designed to effectively decompress the spinal discs and facets without activating the guarding reflex in the muscles. Also the DTS table has several adjustable features to tailor the treatment to each individual. Ancillary care is available in the form of , physiotherapy modalities and procedures, supervised core strengthening program, and home care program.
What conditions does spinal decompression therapy treat?
Spinal decompression therapy can effectively treat: Disc Herniations (Low back pain and/or leg pain/numbness & Neck pain and/or arm pain/numbness ), Degenerative Disc Disease, Arthritis, Facet Syndrome, Spinal Stenosis, Failed Back Surgery/Post Surgical Pain Syndrome.
How long does each treatment session take and how long do I treat for?
Generally, each visit takes between 20-45 minutes depending on the phase of care you are in. A full course of spinal decompression therapy takes between 4-12weeks depending on how often and what condition you are being treated for.
Does the treatment offer permanent relief?
Our program is designed to bring lasting relief so as not to necessitate ongoing therapy. We integrate an active exercise component in addition to a home care protocol designed to teach you to strengthen your back. Besides the spine, the only thing holding your torso and lower body together is muscles! They must be strengthened to keep the pressure off the spine. Any decompression program that does not include core strengthening as a key component should be avoided.
What if I start the therapy and I don't feel any different after a number of treatment sessions?
Although many patients report an immediate decrease in symptoms, be patient. Most likely, your condition developed over many years and in some cases, over many decades. Also, your doctor will perform period re-evaluations to determine objective changes (changes found during the physical exam) in addition to subjective changes. It is important to remember that healing takes place not only during treatment but continues after decompression. Some patients report continued improvement months after treatment has ended.
